Rise and Shine, Campers. It’s Groundhog Day.
So put your booties on because it’s cold out there…
I love the movie Groundhog Day. It is perhaps one of the movies that, in a fun, interesting way, best illustrates how a man experiences and conquers an existential crisis. If you’re in the LoA and Neville Communities, this may very well be one of your favorite movies as it illustrates some of the basic tenets of the Law of Assumption. If you have yet to watch this film- put it high on your must-see list.
What’s so fab about it? In short, the main character, Phil Connors is having a career crisis and experiences that send him off his axis. As a result, he is destined to relive the same day, Groundhog Day, and endure the pain, suffering, and lunacy that his current ego state continuously projects and allows. In his process of better understanding himself, having clarity on what’s important to him, and then doing the things that align him with his desires, he experiences life in a whole new way.
Phil experiences all the things he had hoped for and wanted before this awakening but eluded him because he was closed off. And by being in his authenticity, his reality becomes his desired states and outcomes:
He earns the adoration and respect of others that he always sought.
He learns about himself by pursuing interests- like music and carving ice sculptures.
He falls in love with his ideal woman.
With the impending doom of repeating the same day over and over until he “gets it right”, Phil Connors has an awakening. His once self-serving mindset shifts to that of thoughtfulness and compassion for others. With this radical acceptance of himself and how others show up, he starts to reap the rewards of his newfound merciful and inclusive mindset. And as a result, he gets all the things that once evaded him.
“I'm not going to live by their rules anymore.”- Phil Connors, Groundhog Day
